Oh no you didn’t…What I did for love…or Helicopter Parent…

What I did for love, or helicopter parent?

My phone rings it’s 10:45 am, darn it’s the high school calling, I have 3 kids at the high school so I have to answer. It’s my 15 year old he says, “Mom so glad you picked up, hey I left my English paper in the printer and I need it by 10:45 can you drop it off” I grunt “It’s 10:45 now, and I’m in the middle of getting my hair colored” Son “Mom please it will never happen again, I will owe you big time.” I cringe…

What would you do?

Do I let him suffer the consequences of his forgetfulness?  I should

Or do I jump out of the chair, with foils in my hair, and drop it off? I should not

“Helicopter parent is a colloquial, early 21st-century term for a parent who pays extremely close attention to his or her child’s or children’s experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions. These parents rush to prevent any harm or failure from befalling them and will not let them learn from their own mistakes, sometimes even contrary to the children’s wishes. They are so named because, like helicopters, they hover closely overhead, rarely out of reach, whether their children need them or not”

This is what I did…….

I’d do the same. When we know that are kids are inherently responsible children but are forgetful once in a while with all the different school and after-school activities, its ok to jump in and help out. That’s my 2 cents

    I can’t stop laughing!

I STILL do this when my girls call… they all live within 15 miles of my hubby and me. He does the same. The faucet is broken and the water won’t shut off… Can you come fix it? Really, anytime is fine… If he’s in town, he runs. The smoke detectors won’t stop and there’s no smoke. Can you come? He runs. The porch roof is leaking… and so on.

Oh, and I agree with him. I run too, anytime they call. Stop my writing. Put away my paints. And go.

To me it’s a privilege — and a joy to see them doing the same with their kids.

    You’re a good mom…………………………… and I LOVE the pic!

Loved this post, and I fit the description. I have an 11 year old boy whose famous words are “I forgot, I’m sorry”
I would be jumping in the car too- guess we should all carry a floppy hat in the trunk just in case!

Got something to say?
